The first resource I recommend for studying is your 40 hour training. I know it’s probably not what you want to hear, but it’s the foundation of everything on the RBT board exam. Write down any areas you don’t fully understand and go back to review them. If you still struggle, take your questions to your trainer. You want to master everything in the 40 hour training because it will show up on the exam.
The second resource is RBT Jeopardy, a free and fun way to study. Instead of just reading pages and pages of notes, Jeopardy allows you to review in a more interactive way. You can even form teams if you’re studying with others and make it competitive with a winner at the end.
The 40 hour training is long and sometimes repetitive. A good study guide condenses all that material into the most important points you need to focus on. While there are several available, I recommend the one from ABA Source. It’s affordable, easy to use, and has given many students the confidence to pass their exam.
It’s not just about knowing the content. It’s about how quickly you can recall it. The exam has 85 questions and only 90 minutes to complete them. When I took my exam, I barely had seconds left to submit. Imagine failing not because you didn’t know the material but because you ran out of time!
To build fluency:
- Use flashcards for key terms.
- Take a mock exam and time yourself for 90 minutes.
- Skip tough questions on the first pass and come back to them later.
Fluency ensures you’re not only confident in your knowledge but also fast enough to complete the exam on time.
